Q&A on optical tables
Why did a school the size of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst have their new optical tables delivered to BTI?’s new laser lab.
The simple answer is trust.
Optical tables can weigh up to 5,000 pounds and require assembly. Not every facility will have the machinery and storage space to take the delivery in, store it, and then move it when ready to install. By ordering the Thorlabs optical tables and having them sent to us, the University bought time to get their new laser lab ready for installation.
In addition to buying time and space, UMass knew that BTI had moved and installed Thorlabs
optical tables, along with other brands of optical tables for other clients. So they wouldn’t have to either use their staff or hire an outside firm for installation. They trust BTI with handling the receiving, transport, delivery and set up.

Bridgewater State University: Another optical table job
BTI had a comparable asset management project involving optical tables for Bridgewater State University. Here’s a short video/testimonial from Barbara Masaitis, BSU’s director of capital planning,
What BTI customers are saying
“George, would you kindly distribute the enclosed equally to your great crew? They were understanding and gracious about your and our moving dilemma—and did a fantastic job! Thanks to all.”
